Triangle Poker Run ready to roll on again

Poker run brings rider's together in memory of a friend.

August 20 and 21 will be a busy weekend for classic car and motorcycle enthusiasts. This year will mark the fourth Annual Golden Triangle Memorial Poker Run. The Annual Golden Triangle Poker Run was created four years ago by Bryan Englehart.

“Bryan was a rider that said ‘we should have a Local Poker Run!’ and then organized it,” Terry Hickey said.

For the first two years of the Golden Triangle Memorial Poker Run, Englehart organized it with only his wife, Janice, to help. In 2010, the Royal Canadian Legion as well as Mayhem Motorsports began helping couple although Englehart was still in charge.

This year’s Poker Run is in memory of Englehart, who passed away this past spring.

“The main focus is to have a fun motorcycle ride and raise money for charity while feeding a bit of the ‘gambling jones.”

This year’s poker run will be a two-day event with the Saturday being filled by the 2011 Rocky Mountain Cruisers Cruise In. This event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in front of the Legion. During this time there will be a BBQ and the Legion will be open for refreshments at 11 a.m.  At 5 p.m. the Legion will have their Meat Draw and at 6 p.m. BBQ steaks will be available.

The pre-poker party will finish off with the band Maritime Kitchen Party playing live music beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The actual 4th Annual Golden Triangle Memorial Poker Run will begin at 9 a.m. at Meyhem Motorsports the next day.

The riders begin in Golden and follow the Trans Canada Highway to Castle Junction. Riders then head down Highway 93 to Radium. From Radium, the riders make their way down Highway 95 to Parson and then back to the Royal Canadian Legion.

At  each destination the riders are handed a card and the winning hands will be announced at the Legion.
