The Forum for Young Canadians invites about 315 Canadian youth to Ottawa every year to immerse themselves and learn about government processes, international trade, and advocacy.

This year, Golden Secondary School student Allan Birkett was accepted to participate in the program’s Session 2, which ran from February 25 to March 3. Activities included a senator’s breakfast, world trade simulation provided by Export Development Canada, and a whole day of advocacy training provided by the ONE Campaign.

The highlight of Birkett’s trip was the MP reception, where he had the opportunity to meet with leader of the Green Party Elizabeth May, speaker of the House Geoff Regan, and engage in conversation with Golden’s local MP, Wayne Stetski.
