The cold weather that has put Golden in a stranglehold is a welcome sign for outdoor hockey enthusiasts in the area; the ice should be perfect for the upcoming 3rd Annual Golden Pond Hockey Tournament on February 12th and 13th. The event was originally scheduled to take place at the Adventure Eco-Ranch in Nicholson, but due to some difficulties with ice conditions, the tournament has been moved into Golden.
“There was a couple of problems with the ice surface out in Nicholson, so we had to make the decision to move the event into town. The Town of Golden staff members have been very accommodating to us,” Tournament Co-ordinator, Brad Cable said of the move.
The games will now be taking place on the ice surface beside the RecPlex and Skate Park. One ice surface already exists, and another is well on its way to becoming ice hockey-ready as well.
“The town has been flooding six times a day in between the Skate Park and tennis court. The tournament was held in the same location last year, so I know the ice will be great again this year,” Cable added about the Town’s efforts.
As of February 2nd, 12 teams have already entered this year’s tournament. For more information on the tournament or to enter a team, email: firstname.lastname@example.org or call 250-344-0305.
