The Snow King and Lady Spring are coming and preparations are now underway to welcome them.

On February 16, Golden’s annual Masque Parade will fill Spirit Square with candle light, spinning fire, giant puppets, weird and wonderful creatures of all sorts and interesting music.

Each year, a theme is chosen and this year we acknowledge that “Life is a Carnival.”

The Snow King’s Playhouse is the workshop where the creativity happens and it will be opening this week.  The Playhouse is located in the same spot as the previous several years – the old 180 building on 9th Avenue North, beside the new Youth Centre.

Although the Masque Parade will incorporate the traditional features of past festivals, this year there will be some very exciting new elements which are sure to surprise and thrill all present.

The best way to get involved is to create a lantern or a mask and come out on February 16 prepared to enjoy celebrating the coming change of seasons.

If you have a big or special idea for the festival, please contact Joyce deBoer through the Art Gallery of Golden as soon as possible.
