Pull out your denim, BC Children’s Hospital Jeans Day is back for its 21st year on April 28. Jeans Day, a BC wide fundraiser, is dedicated to raising proceeds for the BC Children’s Hospital Excellence in Child Health Fund. This fund supports all areas of need in the Children’s Hospital including essential services and research.
Overwaitea Foods is a proud supporter of Jeans Day with lapel pins and buttons already available for purchase in stores. Overwaitea has also held many other fundraisers this month in efforts to raise proceeds for the Children’s Hospital.
“BC Children’s Hospital Foundation is our main fundraiser and we get behind everything for the Children’s Hospital,” says Shelley Soles, Bakery Manager. “We’re really involved. We sell hot dogs and do contests and on Mother’s Day we will be selling cupcakes outside of the store. All the proceeds will be going to the Children’s Hospital.
“Another way our employees can donate is having a certain amount of their pay cheque taken off every week and it goes directly to the BC Children’s Hospital.”
For Jeans Day, Soles says that Golden’s Overwaitea buys extra pins every year in hopes that other companies in town will purchase them and support the cause.
In 2010 alone, 78,387 out of the million children in BC visited a Children’s Hospital in the province. Because many children needed multiple trips, 205, 667 visits were made in total.
Since its first year, Jeans Day has raised over 11 million dollars in support of the BC Children’s Hospital Excellence in Child Health Fund.
If you would like to support the cause, visit Overwaitea Foods on or before April 28 and purchase your own lapel pin or button and don’t forget to wear your jeans.
