The Early Childhood Development Coalition (ECDC) is hosting an outdoor education workshop at the College of the Rockies on Saturday April 6.
The workshop, entitled Get Outdoors, is open to parents, teachers, and childcare providers who want to learn more about what outdoor education can do for a class. The engaging workshop will see experienced facilitators model the Get Outdoors Guide’s activities for manageable and successful outdoor classroom experiences.
The Get Outdoors Guide is a new educator’s tool, developed by Wild BC, to help teachers get their students engaged in outdoor experiences. Activities include hands-on mapping, cultural explorations of special places, values exploration and secondary level projects.
The guide includes baby steps for taking students outdoors, and easy sensory awareness activities that help develop personal connections to nature. It also contains Teacher Tip Sheets and checklists covering group management, materials, and field trip planners.
The recognition for the need for outdoor education is growing, and this is the second time the ECDC has organized a workshop to help promote it.
The workshop is open to everyone, and admission is by donation. It takes place at the College of the Rockies on April 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. To register go to getoutdoorsgolden.eventbrite.ca.
