Gordon Neufeld comes to town

Gordon Neufeld

It’s 8:07 a.m.  One of your children is adamant about completing their finger-paint masterpiece on the wall while the other has discovered that the texture of cheerios soaked in milk too long, feels best as a facial scrub and you’ve got 5 minutes to get everyone dressed, fed, and out the door.

It’s 8:07 a.m.  One of your children cannot find her favourite purple sweater and today is her school pictures.  She sits on her bed, refusing to wear anything else and you find the sweater, soaking wet, in the wash.  Your other daughter hasn’t spoken to you since you denied the $75.00 request for the latest and greatest hoodie that “every other girl on the planet has!!” and you are now “so totally uncool”.

It’s 8:07 a.m.  You holler up the stairs for the third time for your lazy, free-loading, bottomless pit of a teenage son to get up and get to school.  Meanwhile your daughter has not spoken to you in days other than “Hi” and “Bye” with her signature eye-roll, has started wearing animal print clothing and is getting raccoon stripes dyed into her hair.  You wonder how a sloth and raccoon have somehow replaced your children.

What makes a child easy to parent?  What kind of parent do you become when your goals don’t match up with your child’s goals? Do you find it difficult to parent from the context of connection and relationship when you are frustrated?  Need an expert’s opinion?

The Golden Family Center is pleased to announce that Dr. Gordon Neufeld, a foremost authority on child development and parenting, an international speaker, and best-selling author is coming to Golden.  Dr. Neufeld will be presenting “Creative Connections: The Art of Parenting”, a talk guaranteed to be inspiring, entertaining, and may generate new perspectives and ideas about how we parent our children.

Dr. Neufeld will present on April 13, from 6- 8pm at the Golden Senior’s Center. Tickets are $5.00 and can be purchased in advance at the Golden Family Center or the Golden Art Gallery and at the door.  Please arrive between 5:30 pm and 6:00 pm for a light meal and refreshments (included in the ticket price). Limited child care subsidies are available upon request at the Golden Family Center.  This event has been generously sponsored by the Early Childhood Development Coalition, the Columbia Basin Trust, the Golden Family Center, the Town of Golden, and Kicking Horse Culture.
