Canada Day promises fun

A list of Canada Day events

Golden is getting ready to party this Canada Day.

With celebrations lasting all day long, everyone will be able to join the festivities.

“The combined efforts of many different organizations have contributed to the planning of this year’s events. Golden is raising the bar for Canada Day celebrations,” said Ruth Kowalski, manager of the Kicking Horse Country Chamber of Commerce.

The Spirit Square will be the start zone where the Kicking Horse Country Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Overwaitea Foods and the Lions Club, will be serving a pancake breakfast beginning at 9 a.m. An artisans market and live entertainment will also be hitting the Spirit Square, giving non pancake lovers a great start to the day too.

New this year will be a six km fun family run. The Kicking Horse Country Dash is designed for those looking to have fun and is geared towards all age groups.

An old favourite is also available for signup; the Canada Day Grind bike challenge will be in full swing for another great year.

This race begins in town and ends at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort where festivities can continue. Registration for both events can be found at www.goldenchamber.bc.ca under the news heading.

The Legion has a full day planned out for July 1 as well. A pancake breakfast, BBQ, live entertainment, a fire truck display, face painting, games and a cake are all on the schedule. For more fun and games for children and an old fashioned family picnic, walk down the street to the Museum.

Sporty fun can fill your day with a visit to the municipal pool for a Canada Day pool party or head down to the popular Stomp Down at the freeride park.

“You will not want to leave town for the long weekend as there is so much to do on Canada Day. You and your family can spend the rest of the weekend being a tourist in Kicking Horse Country and enjoy all of the experiences our region has to offer,” Elixa Neumann, summer assistant manager at the Chamber said, “Kicking Horse Country and organizations including the Museum, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, the Royal Canadian Legion, the Municipal Campground, and the Town of Golden have a fun Canada Day planned for you, your family, and friends this year! Come join in the festivities and share in the celebration of our National Holiday!”
