A new massage clinic opened in Golden to help ease those aches and pains.

Opening on January 14, Knead Wellness is the latest massage clinic to hit Golden with a well experienced therapist.

Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) Shannon MacDonald has been an RMT for the past seven years. After starting in Kinesiology, she quickly realized it wasn’t for her. She turned her studies towards massage and didn’t look back. She graduated from the West Coast College of Massage Therapy in Victoria in 2010 and has been working ever since.

“I love what I do and I think it’s so valuable for people,” MacDonald says.

MacDonald approaches massage from a myofascial focus. The myofascial system are the connective tissues that surround and support muscles throughout the body and MacDonald says it’s a great starting place to approach from. While some massage clinics have a more spa focus, MacDonald has a more clinical point of view.

“It’s assessment based,” MacDonald said. “I really want to educate patients on how their bodies are moving and work with them in feeling better, stronger and healthier.”

At Knead Wellness you can book anywhere from a 30 minute to a 90 minute massage. Knead Wellness offers a variety of different massages from healing, those experiencing jaw dysfunction, pre and post natal massages and everything in-between.

After getting her license, MacDonald worked in Canmore, Alberta, before packing up to move to Golden in July with her fiancé to be closer to friends and the many outdoor activities available here.

“We’ve always loved the community of people here in Golden,” MacDonald said

Since the move MacDonald has been preparing to open her new business while still commuting to Canmore multiple times a week until finishing in Christmas. Now here full time, MacDonald can prepare the finishing touches on her clinic.

MacDonald’s favourite part is working with people. She says it is really unique getting the total one on one time for the allotted period that someone is booked. She is able focus on the individual and help them with their needs. MacDonald is excited for what the future holds and is looking forward to being a part of the community.

” I want to see people on a continual basis in more of a clinical sense,” MacDonald said. We are able to build a great relationship with each other.

Now opened, appointments can be made through her website at www.knead-wellness.com or by contacting her at 250-344-0173.
