For Wildsight Golden every day is Earth Day! The Golden Branch of Wildsight offers many opportunities for local residents and visitors to explore and learn about our natural world in all seasons. Some of the ongoing projects include:

- Research on the status of the Limber and White bark pines in our area and how to protect these rare tree that grow in the subalpine.

- Annual work on the identification and control of invasive plant species.

- Fun and informative programs to learn about organic gardening and growing delicious local food.

- Water quality and benthic invertebrate monitoring in local stream systems.

The Columbia Wetlands Waterbird Survey (CWWS) continues in its third year of a five-year program monitoring the spring and fall migration of water birds through the upper Columbia valley.  Over 80 volunteers have been participating in this citizen science project to gather important data on the species that use these habitats. Increased monitoring of elusive marsh birds is also planned.

Coming up, Wildsight Golden plans to become more involved in climate action projects, and exploring the role of the beaver in our wetlands, and environmentally sensitive trail management.

Check out the “Wings Over the Rockies” bird festival program for local events in our area. Wildsight Golden is hosting a “Breakfast with the Birds” at Reflection Lake and a Bird Walk through Edelweiss Slough on May 13.

“Get Wild” Summer Day Camp

This summer Wildsight Golden will once again be hosting the “Get Wild” summer day camp where youth spend lots of time outside connecting with our local ecosystems and having fun! The camp prides itself with its experiential education style, local collaboration and cool projects. Registration for summer 2017 will begin soon!

Reflection Lake Earth Day Clean up and Potluck

This coming weekend, everyone is invited to join Wildsight Golden for the annual Earth Day Clean Up and Potluck at Reflection Lake - 5 pm Saturday April 22 at the Reflection Lake gazebo on the south end of town. Just bring your own gloves and we will work together to gather up trash accumulated over the winter, then do some feasting at 6pm!

Please bring a dish to share if you can. There will be free hot drinks.

Reflection Lake is one important resting and nesting area for migrating waterfowl.  Our feathered friends will appreciate some help with the housekeeping!

Spotting scopes, binoculars and local ecologists will be available to help spot some of the beautiful birds returning to the valley this spring.
