Rae Barr passed away peacefully in Calgary, on June 21. Grandma Rae Barr was larger than life. Everyone who knew her was touched by her love of life and her kindness. She was an amazing powerhouse of energy who cheered people up when she was around. Rae had a great sense of humour and her laughter filled the room. Her smile was contagious. With Grandma Rae, everyone was welcome to her home and there was always room and food for more. She had a huge heart and never gave up on anyone. She was always giving and never receiving. She was truly one of the greatest volunteers of all time. She never said no to anyone asking for help.

Always an entertainer, Grandma was the life of the party and the last one to leave. She played her guitar until her fingers bled. Many a sing songs were led by Grandma…she always had a way of bringing people together whether it was on the ball field, golf course or curling rink; at family reunions and parties, or her favourite place on earth…the arena.

Grandma had many interests and hobbies over the years, but her greatest passion was her grandchildren, Cody, Andie, Jake, and Dillon. Ever present, no matter when or where, she was there to cheer them on. She was their greatest fan, and she proved this by flying all over the world to give her support. Grandma passed this support onto all of her grandchildren’s teammates and as a result, they all called her Grandma and they will miss her deeply too. Grandma touched a lot of lives and because of this; no one had more friends than her. A true sign of what she had to offer.

Grandma leaves behind her greatest fans, Bob, Marianne, Hummer, Suzy, Paris, Cody, Andie, Jake, Dillon, Ernie and Elvena, Sandy and Wayne, Val, Judy and Terry, and Merle and Stu. Grandma, you inspired us, supported us, and unconditionally loved us. You made us laugh, and it tears our hearts out that now you made us cry. We love you to pieces now and forever. You made everyone you met a better person. We only wish we could have had a chance to read your book…It would have been a best seller!

A Celebration of Rae’s life will take place on Saturday, July 14 at 6:00 pm in the Golden Civic Center, Golden, BC. It is a drop in event, so come any time. Cash bar with donations going to the Shiner’s Crippled Children. Please don’t get all dressed up, it’s an informal affair, just the way Rae would like it…lots of friends and lots of fun!
