Maurice Henri Volard

Mr. Maurice Henri Volard passed away at Durand Manor, Golden on Monday, March 9th, 2009 at the age of 87 years. A Memorial Reception to celebrate Maurice’s life will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, P.O. Box 478, Golden, B.C. V0A 1H0, in memory of Maurice.

Maurice was born in St. Nazaire, France on March 20, 1921. His first marriage was to Yvette Mauriceau. During the first three years of World War 2, Maurice fought with the French Underground and joined the regular army in 1944, where he stayed until demobilization in 1946. After that he spent two years as a supervisor in a logging camp in Gabon, N.W. Africa. Maurice emigrated to Canada in 1951 and worked as a machinist for Cominco in Kimberley, B.C. for 30 years. He moved to Golden in 1984 where he married and is survived by Vera Dustin-Volard. Maurice is also survived by five children: Patrick (Cheryl) Volard of Kimberley, Anne (Antonio) Miguel of Victoria, Mary-France (Lennie Brissette) of Kimberley, Claudé (Michael Park) of Regina and Dominique (Jeanette) Volard of Cranbrook; step-children: William (Cecelia) Dustin of Saskatoon, Karen (Edward) Degagne of Golden, Brian Dustin of Surrey and Susan Johnston of The Pas, Manitoba, 23 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Arrangements were in the care of Hindman Bowers Funeral Home, Golden.
