Hugh Allan “Al” Edmonstone

Hugh Allan “Al” Edmondstone died suddenly at his residence in Golden on Tuesday, November 30th, 2010 at the age of 98 years. A Funeral Service was held at the Golden Senior’s Center on Saturday afternoon, December 4th with Reverend Judith Hardcastle officiating. Interment preceded the service in Mountain View (Legion) Cemetery, Golden. Pallbearers were Gurmit Manhas, Manjit Manhas, Merv Shusheski, Cody Shusheski, Allen Jacob and Robert Lucas.

Al was born in Rocky Rapids, Alberta on July 25, 1912 and had been a resident of Golden since 1965. He was a veteran of World War 2, serving overseas as a Sapper. Al enjoyed gardening, collecting and chopping firewood, bowling, playing crib and travelling. He was an accomplished carpenter and built his own home. Al was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion.

Al was predeceased by his sister Muriel Lucas. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen of Golden; nieces and nephews: Viki (Allen) Jacob of Cold Lake, Alberta, Thomas Klyne of Lantzville, B.C., Robert Lucas of Edmonton, Charles Lucas of USA and Denise of Edmonton; his sister-in-law Joyce Klyne of Nanaimo as well as numerous great nieces and great nephews.

Arrangements were in the care of Hindman Bowers Funeral Home, Golden.
