Colin George Curties passed into the presence of Jesus on September 19, 2011, at the age of 79 years. Colin will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Jan Neale, children; Debra Curties of Toronto, Hal (Carol) Curties of Calgary, Jo-Ann (Kevin) Brown of Massett, Tina (Azeem) Virjee, of Calgary, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Sadly predeceased by his son, Peter and parents, Harold Curties and Dora Cooper. Colin was born in Goudhurst, Kent on October 8, 1931. He moved to Montreal in 1946, the son of a war bride, he worked for a time at Canadair. He attended McGill University and was ordained into the United Church of Canada in 1963. Colin joining the military in 1967 serving in Petawawa, Ontario, Lahr, Germany, Calgary and Massett, BC. He was a peacekeeper in Cypress in 1970 and in 1980 he retired from the military. In 1984 he resumed his civilian ministry with the United Church in Sparwood, retiring from the ministry from Golden United Church in February 1997. During his vibrant years he enjoyed politics, acting as mayor of Sparwood for two years. He loved to ski, golf and hike in the Rockies. As he became less active he devoted more time to his hobbies which included writing, oil painting, stamp collecting and music. Colin loved to sing and joined the choir wherever he attended church. A memorial service was held on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Penticton United Church, 696 Main Street, Penticton, BC with Reverend Laura J. Turnbull officiating.
