UPDATED: Hwy. 1 reopens west of Revelstoke

UPDATE 7:55 p.m.:

Highway 1 has reopened west of Revelstoke following a closure late Sunday afternoon.

DriveBC reported the road was closed in both directions due to a high avalanche hazard.

A tweet from Emcon’s Selkirk Division on Sunday showed pictures of machinery cleaning up avalanche debris in a 22km-long section of road 32km to 54km west of Revelstoke on Hwy. 1.

DriveBC is now reporting that the road will be closed from 16km to 26km west of Revelstoke for avalanche debris removal between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m. Delays up to 20 minutes are expected.

On Monday, the road will be closed from 7km to 26km west of Revelstoke for avalanche control between 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. No detour will be available.

ORIGINAL: A high avalanche hazard has forced the closure of Highway 1 west of Revelstoke late Sunday afternoon.

DriveBC is reporting that the Trans-Canada Highway is closed from 7 km to 26 km west of Revelstoke. There is no detour available.

DriveBC says the next update will be at 8 p.m.
