The Golden Star's heritage dates back to 1891 when it was founded as The Golden Era by an Australian mining engineer.
It acquired new owners, and its current name, 12 years later. For 60 years, the Star was operated by the Fish family. It joined Black Press in May of 2003.
Golden is a town of 5,000 people, with another 4,500 in the immediate rural area. It is nestled in the Columbia Valley with the Rocky Mountains to the east and the Purcell/Selkirk Range to the west.
Golden has become an adventure sport mecca, attracting skiers, snowboarders, mountain bikers, paragliders or whitewater rafters.
With the recent development of Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, Golden has begun to step onto the world stage.
